Humans are heavily invested in physical appearance. There’s no denying this. Look around you. Chances are, you are surrounded with television images, magazine photos and advertisements showcasing beautiful people. Not surprisingly, every one of these people also sport “perfect” smiles. Very rarely will a crooked smile sneak past this barrier.
But have you ever taken the time to think about why we’ve designated a white, evenly spaced smile as the ideal?
That’s one question that researchers at the universities of Leeds and Central Lancashire tackled in their recent study. Researchers took photos of models and then digitally altered the color and spacing of the models’ teeth. These photos were given to a group of 150 young men and women. The participants were asked to rate the models according to how attractive they were. Not surprisingly, pictures of models with white, evenly spaced teeth were rated most attractive.
Researchers then went on to suggest that teeth are what humans use to gauge each other’s health. When males are seeking a partner, they subconsciously desire health and good genes in women. White, evenly spaced teeth indicate both of these important factors!
Now, not everyone was born with the perfect pearly whites. If you were not, there’s no need to worry- at New Hampshire Family Dentistry we offer veneers- the perfect procedure to hide dental flaws and get a beautiful smile makeover!
What are Veneers?
Veneers are thin, tooth shaped shells that are designed to cover the front of an unattractive tooth, masking the imperfections. This procedure can cover a number of dental flaws including:
- Crooked teeth
- Broken teeth
- Chipped teeth
- Stained teeth
- Wide gaps between teeth
Veneers do not replace teeth, instead, they enhance the natural tooth’s appearance. The procedure is irreversible and lasts for many years when they are cared for properly.
Process of Veneers
When you opt to receive veneers, we can complete the procedure for you in just two visits to our office!
During the first visit to our office, you will have a consultation with Dr. Mandera. He will listen to you concerns and will make sure he understands what results you desire, You will specify the shape, size and color of your veneers. Then, a small amount of enamel will be removed from your teeth. This part of the procedure is painless. However, if it puts you at ease, Dr. Mandera can apply anesthesia. After the enamel is removed, a mold will be taken of your teeth and used to create your veneers.
Once we receive your veneers from our laboratory, Dr. Mandera will permanently attach them using dental cement. Once any small last minute changes have been made, you are free to enjoy your new smile makeover!
